OUR MISSION

The Slover Foundation supports families whose lives have been altered due to fire. When family members can care for and support each other, the wounds heal faster.

WE BELIEVE IN THE HEALING

POWER OF FAMILY

The experience of Sutton Slover and his wife, Lindsey Slover, is the inspiration of our foundation.  We aspire to give back to others what people gave to Sutton and his family during their time of need.

The Slover Foundation was created with the sole purpose of helping burn victims by supporting their families. Our interest in helping burn victims began when one of our own, Sutton Slover, was seriously injured while clearing land at his farm in Madison, Georgia. He was able to request a helicopter be sent to transport him to Grady Hospital Burn Center and this one move-more than any other- is responsible for saving his life.

At Grady, everything possible was done by the staff and doctors to make Sutton’s stay, and that of his family, as smooth as possible. The staff and doctors at Grady were vigilant in their treatment of Sutton.  The Slover Family surrounded Sutton everyday with their presence and prayers.  Those prayers have been answered by Sutton’s recovery.

A tragedy with the magnitude of life threatening burns is difficult to navigate for families without help and a lot of support. For most families of burn victims, it is their first experience with the special care needed to protect the injured from infection and subsequent complications.

Also, the patient and their family realize, during and particularly following release from the hospital, that healing the burns is just one aspect of the injury and recovery.  Oftentimes, rehabilitation and counseling are required.  We believe that if a family has the support they need to care for their family member, the wounds will heal quicker. With this in mind, Sutton’s family wanted to turn this tragedy into something positive.

Sutton’s brother, Colquitt, conceived the idea for the Foundation and with the help of a family friend and attorney, Kevin Burkhart, completed all the documents needed to make the Foundation a non-profit organization.

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.”

Psalm 28:7
